Norplex-Micarta\'s line of ShotBlocker® ballistic resistant materials are impervious to projectiles, heat, and fire, while minimizing damage from ricocheting slugs or fragments. These exceptional characteristics make the ShotBlocker family of products suitable for a variety of security applications.ShotBlocker consists of woven glass fabric impregnated with a high-temperature phenolic resin system. The materials provide superior flexural, compressive, and impact strength over a wide temperature range, as well as excellent creep resistance. Also, the phenolic resin system yields a ballistic laminate with superior fire, smoke, and toxicity ratings (ASTM E84) over conventional polyester resin fiberglass laminates. Glass fabric based, anti-ballistic materials, such as ShotBlocker, are far lighter than ballistic steel armor plates.
ShotBlocker materials can be readily cut using commercial quality circular, table, or panel saws. Precise, high quantity production of panels is typically accomplished with water jet cutting. Because of its comparatively light weight characteristics, the material is known for ease of fabrication, handling, and installation.
